Senator Charlotte Burks

Born in Gainesboro, Charlotte Burks has spent all of her life in the 15th District. She is the widow of Senator Tommy Burks and was elected in 1998 to succeed him in the Senate following his death.

Charlotte is the mother of three daughters, nine grandchildren (with a 10th on the way) and one great-grandson. She is a tireless advocate for children and families, and his been honored numerous times for her work on domestic and sexual violence and public education. Both the Upper Cumberland Development District and Human Resource Agency have named her Legislator of the Year.

As someone who raises crops for a living at her homeplace in Monterey, Charlotte is an outstanding voice for family farmers. She has been honored by the state FFA and the Friends of 4-H.

She is a member of the Sycamore Church of Christ in Cookeville.
